Youth Combat Practice

Hi everyone!

We have had a couple of great practices this winter. This past Sunday, we had friends from Wheeling join us. As of right now Feb 4th and Feb 11th, we will be having practice at the Chinese Church at 2pm. I would love to get as many youth as possible to the Feb 4th practice. I would like to have a meeting with them.

Also as many of you know, I have a grandson due anytime now. This will not affect fighting practice. Mistress Arianna will hold the practice if I should be at the hospital with my daughter.

Hope to see everyone on Sunday!

Scribal East (with music!) This Thursday

From THL Rachel Delicieux, via the BMDL email list (so apologies for this being posted there twice):

Hello everyone. Want to learn how to shade acanthus leaves like a boss? Or learn basic calligraphy? Or try a “scary” Black Hours scroll? (And discover that they’re actually a piece of cake!) Lady Ceindrich and I will be hosting the third Scribal East (With Music!) get-together this Thursday 11/30 at Lady Ceindrich’s home in Monroeville. (PM me or check Dark Pages for address.) Beginner recorder will start at 6:30, and I have recorders and music available. Scribal will start at 7. Come play with us!

Scribal Guild cancelled for 10/18 and call for interest

Unto the Barony, greetings from Kameshima, Scribal Guildmaster. Our apologies for the late notice, but we are canceling tonight’s Scriptorium.

As many may have noticed, we have had to cancel a number of the recently scheduled Scriptoria due to mundane life issues. It has become apparent to both Isabel and myself that we are not presently able to give the Guild the attention it is due. Therefore, we are looking for a volunteer to assume leadership of the Scribal Guild and responsibility for hosting the periodic Baronial Scriptorium.

If you are interested in this position, please contact me at scriptorium at debatablelands dot org for more information.

Reminder: Scriptorium THIS WEDNESDAY

Unto the Barony, greetings from Kameshima, Scribal Guildmaster! This is your reminder that the monthly Scriptorium will be held tomorrow night, for those of you not planning on attending the Baronial Business Meeting.
Scriptorium is the monthly gathering of calligraphers, illuminators, wordsmiths, and anyone interested in taking up and learning more about these creative arts. We welcome all skill levels, from the most accomplished Laurels to those that have never picked up a pen or a brush. Become part of creating the atmosphere and visual splendor of the SCA!
Join us tomorrow night, Wednesday, August 16, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Kameshima and Isabel’s house in the North Hills. (Our address is listed in the Dark Pages, or you can contact us at scriptorium at debatablelands dot org for more information.) We will once again be holding an Open Project and Small Group Workshop Night, with a focus on creating the Baronial Invitations for the upcoming Æthelmearc 20th Anniversary and Crown Tournament event.
Bring your current assignment, or something that you’re currently learning, practicing or tinkering with. Lots of table space will be made available. Be careful if the recipient is a local scribe, though; we love looking over each other’s shoulders, and we wouldn’t want the surprise to be ruined! 🙂 Alternately, if there is something specific with which you’re looking for individualized assistance, please send mail to scriptoriumat debatablelands dot org in advance and we will see what we can do to get a teacher there to work with you!
Please be aware, our house contains two cats, a dog, and a toddler: medicate or otherwise prepare yourself as necessary.

Seeking Archers to Represent the Debatable Lands at the Scarlet Guard Inn!

Hello Debatable Lands!

As many of our archers know the Scarlet Guard Inn is scheduled for June 9-11 and will feature the best archery experience in Aethelmearc. Prominently featured will be the Scarlet Guard Challenge where one archer from each group in the kingdom is invited to vie against all other group’s representatives in this kingdom wide challenge. How is that 1 representative chosen, you might ask?

Lord Ronan, who was the representative for the Barony at last year’s Scarlet Guard Inn, will host a challenge tournament on Sunday June 4 at Archery Practice, and invite the winner to compete in this intra-kingdom competition. So wax your strings and straighten your arrows, this will be fun and challenging!

Cheers,
Brandubh et Hilderun

Heavy and Rapier Fighting Champs – May 28th

We will begin with the Fencing Championship to be held at 2:00 and then follow with the Heavy Weapons Championship at 3:00

All residents of the Barony are welcome to fight in either tournament, and any holders of the Comettus Amicus (Green Comet) are invited to compete as well. The winners and seconds will be expected to fight in the 7 Pearls Championships in Endless Hills on September 9. We look forward to the displays of skill and prowess!

Cheers,

May Scriptorium Cancelled; Go to War Practice!

Unto the Barony, greetings from Kameshima, Scribal Guildmaster.

This month’s Scriptorium, scheduled for May 17, overlaps with the first night of War Practice. In an effort not to overload your schedule, we are choosing to cancel this month’s practice, and instead, recommend that you attend War Practice and avail yourself of the plethora of scribal classes that will be offered, and the Scribal Playtime that will take place from 10am – 4pm on Saturday, May 20th.

Join us again in June for our regularly scheduled Project Night! Remember that Project Nights are also available for Small Group Workshops: if you have a specific topic or skill that you would like to work on, please let us know at scriptorium@debatablelands.aethelmearc.org and we will do our best to arrange for someone to be there to work with you.

Not sure how to find pages from medieval manuscripts and documents that you can use as the basis for your SCA scrolls? Learn where and how to search, as well as how to interpret what you find, so you can be sure that your scrolls are based on period sources.

Please be aware, our house contains a cat, a dog, and an infant: medicate or otherwise prepare yourself as necessary.

January Scriptorium: Introduction to Cadels
