Archery Practice tomorrow (5/4) is a GO!

Salve Accolens!

After consulting with the sages who portend the weather, reading the tea leaves, and sacrificing a goat (at least one of those things didn’t happen – your guess!), I’m making the call that Archery Practice tomorrow will proceed as planned.

I checked the site this morning, and apart from a few puddles near the parking lot outside of our normal traffic area, there was nothing I saw that would hinder us from having our regular practice. That said, there is rain forecasted from now until the time that practice usually starts, so the ground will be soggy and you will want to wear appropriate footwear.

Also, be aware that the Pittsburgh Marathon is tomorrow, and there will be several road closures that may obstruct your route to the practice site, so check <a href=”https://p3r.org/media/W1siZiIsIjIwMjUvMDQvMTUvNGliMTF1cW92cV8yMDI1X0RTR1BNX1NlY3Rvcl9NYXAucGRmIl1d/2025%20DSGPM%20Sector%20Map.pdf“>this map of closures</a> (we’re off to the northeast of the blue O in the upper right corner) before planning your drive in, and be prepared for related traffic delays.

I’ll continue to keep an eye on the weather and if it escalates to sudden downpours or persistent rain beyond what’s been forecasted, I’ll make a last-minute call should the need arise. Watch this and all our other usual spaces.

Yours in service,

Niall mac Raedwulf, Captain of the Archers

Fiber Arts Guild April Meeting

The next Fiber Arts Guild Meeting will take place on Monday, April 28th, at 7 pm, at our usual place, 5167 Rosecrest Dr, Pittsburgh, PA.

We will have a laid back meeting and enjoy the spring weather if possible. Hopefully, we can plan out an indigo dyeing day for later in the summer. I will bring dye reference books and tools for people to look at and borrow.

If anyone has any classes or workshops they want to do this summer, please message me.

Exchequer Call for Letters

My term as exchequer is over in June. I do not plan to run for a second term and am calling for letters from all who are interested in serving as barony exchequer.

As exchequer, you are expected to be completely familiar with the SCA financial policy as well as the kingdom and barony policies. These documents are available online. You need to be thorough in record keeping and to complete event reports, quarterly financial reports, draw up the yearly budget, based on the previous year. All of these are using excel or online google docs. You are required to submit NMR paperwork and fee, event reports with supporting documentation, and financial reports with supporting documentation on time. You need to maintain financial records for 7 years. You are the keeper of the barony checkbook and will need to write checks as needed, get a second signature, and arrange to deliver them.
In addition to being responsible for the barony financial assets, you are responsible for other assets. These are mostly in the keeping of the baronage, the pennsic trailer, the officers, larder, gold key, and iron key. Once a year, in November, it is your job to nag people for the inventory of their assets.

If you are interested, send a letter with your experience and intent to barony seneschal, Magister Ceindrech, seneschal@debatablelands.aethelmearc.org, and to me exchequer@debatablelands.aethelmearc.org, by June 3rd. The election will be held at the June business meeting. That is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4th. It has been my privilege serving as your exchequer.

In Service,
Hara Kikumatsu

Call for Letters – Barony Webminister

Greetings!

My first term as Webminister for the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands ends as of the April 2 business meeting. I have enjoyed serving these past two years, and am fully committed to serving a second 2-year term, but I am required by courtesy and policy to request letters of intent for the position.

If you have the necessary skills and experience, please consider submitting a letter of intent for the April business meeting. For technical skills, you should have a moderate understanding of HTML, and experience with PHP, WordPress, and cPanel is a huge help. The role mainly involves being able to promptly respond to email requests to publish new information to the site, blog, and Barony calendar. I should also add that I am still in the process of migrating the existing website and e-mail systems to the Aethelmearc kingdom server, so taking on this role now would involve working closely with me and both the outgoing and incoming kingdom webministers to complete this transition.

Please include your qualifications, relevant experience, and vision for the role in your letter of intent. As a reminder, in order to be considered for the position, you must be a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism in good standing and a member of the Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands.

Submit your letter of intent via email to Their Excellencies, Baronesses Violeta and Prima (baronage@debatablelands.aethelmearc.org), and to our Seneschal Ceindrich (seneschal@debatablelands.aethelmearc.org) by April 1, 2025.

Yours in Service,
Niall mac Raedwulf, Current Webminister of the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands
