Hello folks. I’m wearing both my Baronial Signet and my Regional Signet hat today.
Now that we’ve seen a return to in-person events, we have been blessed with a great many wonderful awards. Our scribes are awesome and talented and have risen to the challenge.
With each scroll, we try to include a scroll case so that the beautiful piece of art can be transported home safely without damage.
However, as a result, we are now running low on scroll cases!
This is a good problem to have! But now I’m asking folks to take a look around and see if they have any scroll cases at home that could be returned for Baronial and/or Kingdom use. (You should get that scroll framed and put on display anyway.)
Also, if folks have the time and inclination to make scroll cases, they are just two pieces of cardboard covered in fabric…a great way to use up scraps! Most scrolls fall between 9×12 and 12×20, so those sizes of scroll cases are the most useful.
I will be at BMDL’s Japanese Iris Festival on June 4. And, of course, Pennsic.
For those of you at or going to War Practice, have an amazing time! If not, have a good weekend. Either way, I know you’ll want more SCA awesomeness, soon! Here’s a quick summary of the next things coming up in our Barony:
–May 24th (Tues, 7:30pm) – May Social Meeting – Virtual –June 1st (Wed, 8pm) – Barony Business Meeting – Virtual –June 4th (Saturday, all day) – Iris Festival with Iron Comet Challenge and Kingdom Equestrian Champs! –June 12th (Sunday, at practice) – Stellar Tournaments! Sun List (Heavy) and Moon List (Rapier) –June 19th (Sunday, at practice) – Stellar Tournament! Sky List (Archery)
And of course our regular practices and gatherings!
Summer will soon be upon us and we are beginning to gather (safely) once again! We have several very special events taking place in the coming weeks, including the Endless Hills Investiture on May 28th, at which we will be celebrating our gracious neighbors and their good peoples. We also have our Barony’s own special events happening soon, at which we may likely be welcoming many newcomers!
Thusly, we would greatly appreciate any gifts of largesse you might wish to share with our Kingdom and populace. Please aid us in filling our Baronial coffers with fun and useful Things for the populace!
Should you have items to gift, I hope to be attending War Practice on Saturday, and I also hope to be at archery practice on Washington Blvd on the 28th, should weather and schedules align. Alternately, you can also arrange to get them directly to Their Excellencies. 🙂
This picture of largesse was taken by Her Majesty, Queen Ariella, of items received from BMDL by Their Majesties at their Coronation in April, as well as a box of beautiful beaded bracelets from our friends in the Barony of Rhydderech Hael. Often, I think people believe their contributions of one or two items to be too small to be of value… but oh, what a wonderful thank-you they make to those who receive them!
A list of possible ideas is below. As always, we thank you for your time, efforts, and creativity!! 🙂
Yours in service,
Rose O’Tierney

There is a Debatable Lands event on Saturday June 4th, 2022, at the Horse Arena at Brady’s Run, 121 Brady’s Run Rd, Beaver Falls, PA 15010. The event opens at 9am and runs to 7pm. It is a full day of tournaments for fencing, thrown weapons, heavy fighting, archery, and arts and sciences. There will be adult and youth winner for each of those tournaments. In addition, there is a combined Iron Comet Challenge. Adult contestants in the combined challenge can omit one martial tournament, but must compete in the A&S. Youth challenge contestants can omit two martial tournaments, but must enter the A&S. There will be adult and youth winners for the Iron Comet Challenge.
There is also a separate Arts and Sciences display with an east Asian theme.
Wait, there’s more. The kingdom equestrian champs will also be happening during the day and if weather cooperates, there will be a joust to finish the fun.
Hello, it is with sad hearts we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Debatable Lander Lord Eoghan MacDuibhshithe (MacFee), known mundanely as Harry “Pat” Beck. He is survived by his wife, Dame Margaret Makafee (Gretchen Beck), and his friends.

Though Lord Eoghan had not been active these past years, he was a staple in our Barony in years past, excelling particularly in merry-making, and instrumental in bringing rapier fighting to the southern reaches of the Principality of Æthelmearc, along with his friends and household.
As Dame Margaret said about him,
“[Eoghan] is now one with the universe and no more in these earthly dwellings. Pray raise a glass and a fond memory for his time with you.“
Final arrangements are private to family, but there may be a memorial service later this summer.
Salve Accolens! Hello Debatable Lands and Neighbors!
If you’re attending Pennsic this year, the deadline to pre-register is approaching! Online pre-registration for land allocation ends June 16th!
If you are planning to camp with the Debatable Lands, you MUST pre-register by June 16th (not the later, unpaid deadline). Our Baronial camp welcomes all Debatable Landers and friends, provided all campers are pre-registered (paid), and provided you follow the rules. Our camp name is “Debatable Lands“.
Also, all who register to camp with the Debatable Lands should contact our Camp Reeve, Master Emrys (called Broom), for to get and provide more details. You can email him at iambroom@gmail.com.
If you’re planning to camp with another camp, please do make sure you’re in contact with their camp leadership about their rules and requirements.
Hoo doggies! It’s getting exciting now! Where’s all my Pennsic garb?!?!
