Fight Practice May 23

Good Gentles, Weather permitting, we will have fight practice, at the Washington Blvd site, starting at 2 PM on Sunday May 23. The SCA has mandated that CDC compliant masks will be worn (on the face, and covering nose and mouth) at all times except when food or water is being consumed, which should be done with social distancing. Please bring your own water, food, and hand sanitizer. It is recommended to bring more water than you think you will need. There will not be any loaner armor at this time. And equipment should not be shared with anyone outside of your family group. It would probably be a good idea to check your authorization card to see if it has expired. If you do not feel well, please stay home, and we will be happy to see you when you are feeling better. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me and I will try to resolve them. I hope to see you there. Robert

Q1 Althing

First off the Q1 Althing is up and has been for a while. Secondly, I must apologize for this being so late. I had a technical error on my part with posting.

Missive from the Kingdom Seneschal in regard to Rattan and Rapier Combat

Good Gentles all,

Here are the words from the Kingdom Seneschal. The Officers and the Marshals will be in conference. More information will be forthcoming.

Muirgheal inghean Dubhghaill

From Master Illadore:

Please read the whole email, as it has specifics.

First and foremost, Their Majesties, the Deputy Kingdom Seneschal for
Pandemics (Duke Christopher), the Earl Marshal (Master Morien) and I
have determined that AEthelmearc can start fighting and fencing again,
starting May 10, 2021. This change is due to the Board of Directors
and Society Seneschal’s clarifications on what is allowed at SCA
events and gatherings.

To clarify – fencing and fighting can start May 10, 2021; however, all
participants must follow SCA guidelines:

1) Everyone must wear a mask. (This means over the mouth and nose, not
over the helm.)
2) You can only take your mask off to eat or drink – and you must be
stationary AND follow social distancing guidelines.
3) You must bring your own food and water.
4) All fencing and fighting must be outside. (This is a change from gatherings.)

The SCA also will not require vaccinations to participate; however, if
a site owner (including homeowners) is requiring people to be
vaccinated to come to their home, they have the right to do that.
Enforcement, however, is on them, not the SCA. It is the homeowner who
is responsible for deciding what proof they will accept, for any
checking of that proof, and for any enforcement. It needs to be made
clear that this is a rule of the homeowner, not the branch of the SCA.

Thank you so much and please contact me if you have any questions,
Illadore de Bedegrayne
Kingdom Seneschal

Sewing Circle May 6th at 7:30

So it is so that it will soon be time to sew. Thursday May 6th at 7:30 is the next sewing circle. Not just sew, but knit, braid, or perhaps spin. If you are working with fiber, we will enjoy your company. Maybe you have a mending project, and that would make this session May Mending. I am continuing online sewing for companions who are not close enough or free enough to join in person. Masks are required. If you are fully vaccinated, past your Freedom day, and would like to attend in-person, or if you want the zoom information, please feed free to email sewing (at) debatablelands (dot) org.

Exchequer Call for Letters

As all good things must come to an end, my time as Exchequer is nearing its completion. I was the deputy exchequer for approximately two years, and I have been serving in this office for the last four years. In that time, I have had the opportunity to work with a plethora of people at business meetings, addressing the barony as a whole at barony meetings, and working with staff at the Barony’s events to ensure the money was handled properly. I am now issuing a call for letters. My last business meeting as Exchequer will be the first week of June.

Please send any letters of interest to the seneschal at seneschal@debatablelands.aethelmearc.org. If you have any questions about what the position entails, please feel free to reach out to exchequer@debatablelands.aethelmearc.org The physical requirements for the position will require access to a computer with Office or Google Docs, a scanner or scanning program on your phone, (I use Adobe Scan), and space for about three or four file boxes. People with a history of retail cash management and some basic Excel knowledge will be well equipped for this position.

The exchequer runs the budget meeting every April, attends 6 business meetings yearly, attempts to attend as many Barony meetings as possible each year, attempts to attend kingdom exchequer meetings at select events including a one hour session at Pennsic, and keeps in touch with the barony’s officers as well as the kingdom exchequer’s office. They will submit four reports each year, as well as a one-page report after each Barony event. The overall time commitment will vary throughout the year; some weeks there will be zero hours spent in this position. Near Barony hosted events or when reports are due, you may spend up to 10 hours per week ensuring other members have reimbursements, that the money ends up at the bank, and that the event reports are filed. Thank you for allowing me to serve the barony in this fashion. I plan on continuing to work with the Barony’s officers to help create the best place to play.

In Service,

Lady Arthes

Shakespeare’s Othello – Tonight

Tonight, Friday, April 9th we’ll be showing Othello starting at 7:30pm, followed by a chat until 10:30pm. This performance, starring Orson Welles, dates from 1951. We hope to see you there! O heavy ignorance! Thou praisest the worst best. Watch from the comfort of your living room via the AEther.

Please contact Alaric at alaric (at) pobox (dot) com for the Zoom room information. He can also be reached via DM on Discord (Alaric #9264). Get your information before the movie starts, if possible, as Alaric is also watching and might not see your request to join right away. If you attended a prior Shakespeare Movie Night, the Zoom room information is the
same.

Debatable Lands Business Meeting ZOOM info – TONIGHT 8 pm EST

Greetings,

Please find the ZOOM information for the meeting this evening.

Please remember that the new Zoom guidelines do request that we do not publish the zoom information more than 24 hours in advance. [Yes, I shall try to make it more warning than a few hours in the future. That was a technical issue on my part.]
