Arts & Sciences Meeting

Thursday, April 26th is our last A&S meeting at Victory Pointe!

Everyone is invited to come and meet our newly crowned Queen Siobhan! Her Majesty will answer our questions, discuss awards, and tell how to address a person by their proper honorific. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn about the “court”ly side of our game!

Baron Leonard Memorial Article

Mistress Arianna has written a very lovely memorial article for our Baron Leonard for the AEthelmearc Gazette. I encourage everyone to read it, even if you never met him. Len is a very big part of why our Barony is the way we are. He and his Baroness are missed.

Youth Combat

Reminder that youth combat will be at the castle this week. Fighting will begin at 2pm. I look forward to seeing everyone.

Also we will not be having practice on April 29th and will begin regular practices on May 6th at Washington Blvd.

Chatelaine election and call for letters

Dear BMDL,

My term as Chatelaine will be coming to an end in June, and I will be seeking a second term, however, I am calling for letters. Send your letter to the Baronage and to me – baron(at)debatablelands.org, baroness(at)debatablelands.org, seneschal(at)debatablelands.org, and chatelaine(at)debatablelands.org.

The deadline for letters is May 31st 2018 to allow sufficient time for your letter to be reviewed by the Officers’ prior to the June Business Meeting.

A and S — Coronation Gifts — April 19

Arts & Sciences Meeting

Thursday, April 19th is once again A&S time!

The Coronation of Sven and Siobhan is at hand, and as always, our Baron and Baroness will be presenting the newly crowned royals with a basket of gifts from the Barony. This week, I will have my sewing machine, box of threads, scissors, fabric, and other bits needed to make items to fill the basket. Show the generosity of our people with the contribution of your time and effort.

Youth Combat

Sunday, April 15th- the location of practice will follow the adult heavy fighting. Please watch for their post to the location. We will only be practicing from 2 to 4pm due to a death in my family.

Sunday, April 22nd- We will be at the castle. I will post exact times soon.

Sunday, April 29th- We will not be having practice.

A and S — Sew Easy Garb — April 12

Arts & Sciences Meeting

Thursday, April 12th is once again A&S time!

Whether you are going to the Coronation of Sven and Siobhan or not, you might want to make some Finnish garb. This Thursday, Ihala Auvinen will help us create an underdress and an overdress. You’ll find documentation here: https://ravencrosspress.wordpress.com/2015/04/14/eura-underdress-the-family-look-pt-1/ .

To make an underdress, bring 2 yards of 60″ wide fabric (linen, faux-linen, wool, cotton). This is a zero waste pattern with no gussets or gores! WASH and DRY your fabric to pre-shrink it.

To make an overdress, bring enough fabric to wrap around your body comfortably. Also, bring a woven belt and brooches or pins for the shoulders.

I will have my sewing machine, box of threads, and scissors. Bring anything else you think you’ll need, such as paper and pencil to take notes or make diagrams.

Happy 44th Birthday, Debatable Lands!!

Hello Debatable Lands!

Happy Birthday! On this day, April 6th, in 1974, then-King Aonghais and then-Queen Alyson of the Kingdom of the East, and also Alfgar, Brigantia, signed the Barony Petition and Charter for the Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands.

What an amazing ride it has been. We are rich in history, in friendship and love, in skill, in camaraderie, in curiosity, in most importantly, in fun.

The best Barony in the Knowne World, the Debatable Lands… YOU… are remarkable. We are very proud to be your Baron and Baroness. Thank you for making this amazing hobby of our so much more than a hobby!

Coronation Gift Basket from our Barony – Donations Requested

Hello Debatable Lands!

The Coronation of our very own Prince Sven and Princess Siobhan is coming up in shortly, on April 21st. It’s customary for our Barony to present the new King and Queen with a gift basket from our people. Not only does this showcase our most Excellent Artisans, but it also provides useful items to our new Royalty for use during Their Reign.

Greetings all! With Coronation fast approaching, your friendly neighborhood Largesse Coordinator is putting together baskets! I know some of us have talked, but if anyone is interested in Largesse, or has a project they’d like to donate as a gift, now’s your chance! You can email me at Largesse@debatablelands.aethelmearc.org for more details.

Items that are especially welcome are things our Royalty might gift to others, from order medallions to small pieces of jewelry, clothing accessories, incidentals like needle books, small blank notebooks, blank thank you cards, small feast items, cording, (consumables are welcome, but very well labeled, please). Anything you think is useful. Handmade or store bought or anything in between.

A and S — Make and Take and Be Warm — April 5

Tomorrow, Thursday April 5th is once again A&S time!

Ever been to War Practice? This year, it is May 17-20, 2018 at Cooper’s Lake, and you can expect the weather to be dry, sunny, calm, and warm. Or….possibly not.

If you would stay warm, come to Make and Take to construct your very own Bag of (Heat) Holding to keep you toasty all day long! Need a photo? Here you go:

In addition, drawstring bags can be quite handy: they hide your cell phone or inhaler, contain your loose change, hold a project-in-progress.
