Happy easter everyone. Be safe.

On Friday, 26 April 2019 at 6:00 p.m., there will be cooking and socializing at Odriana’s. We will do this every fourth Friday of the month. With the weather getting nicer, we’re going to aim for cooking outdoors, but will cook indoors if it’s rainy and/or cold.
This first meeting will be cooking something out of Scappi, talking about food safety in non-traditional kitchen environments, and reviewing basic knife skills. More social than traditional teaching, don’t feel like you need to have some level of cooking skills. I’m still a novice at over the fire cooking, so we’ll all be learning together – or, if you’re a more experienced outdoor cook and want to guide us, that would be deeply appreciated.
If the weather is nice, bring camp chairs. I have a few, but not enough to cover more than a couple of people. There is limited parking at the house, however, there is a parking lot adjacent to my property for people to park and walk over. If you need to drop someone off and go park, that is perfectly fine. To get location information and add it to your personal calendar click here. You can also contact me at jenn.strobel(at)gmail.com.
Looking forward to seeing y’all there!

A while back, Kameshima created a series of badges for the use of each guild so that there would be a visual way to quickly identify who was posting. At the time, this was announced, but I don’t think that it was really explained why these things have value and how they can be used to better communicate your activities.

Each badge uses a symbol that is immediately associated with the guild – crossed recorders, a helm, a cooking pot, etc. These badges are free for the use of anyone that is posting information or announcements about their guild. When you look at Storfrettir, it immediately forms a visual connection between the symbol and the subject matter you will find below that symbol
The use of visual language, we should all know well – we use heraldry to identify ourselves, our stuff, our households, our Kingdom, and our Barony. We use heraldry on our clothing and belongings to identify ourselves to others. Sometimes the only way to identify who a fighter is is because of the heraldry on the shield. Visual language is the easiest form of communication that we have in the SCA. By identifying your guild with the badge associated with it, makes it easier to know who is posting and get right to the content you want.
I hope that the various guild heads and those posting for the various guilds will choose to use this heraldry in the future.

Sewing Circle tonight is cancelled due to lack of childcare and the impending holiday. Please join us on May 15 if you aren’t already en route to War Practice.
