Fencing Practice March 31

Greetings,

There will be fencing practice this week at the Chinese Church from 2-6.

Loaner gear is available.

Next Sunday, the day after Coronation, will be a regional muster at the same site as Coronation, so practice will be relocated there next week.

Coronation Largesse Basket from the Barony

Hello Debatable Lands!

The Coronation of Prince Gareth and Princess Juliana is coming up in shortly, on April 6th. It’s customary for our Barony to present the new King and Queen with a gift basket from our people. Not only does this showcase our most Excellent Artisans, but it also provides useful items to our new Royalty to use as gifts during Their Reign.

Items that are especially welcome are things our Royalty might gift to others, from order medallions to small pieces of jewelry, clothing accessories, incidentals like needle books, small blank notebooks, blank thank you cards, small feast items, bags or pouches, cording, and similar. Consumables are most welcome, but very well labeled, please. Anything you think is useful. Handmade or store bought or anything in between.

Please do label your items with your name if you’re comfortable doing so! We like to see lots of recognition of Debatable Landers!

We are also currently looking for a new Largesse Coordinator, as Lady Ashling has stepped down. Thank you to her for her wonderful years of service! VIVAT! If you are interested in Coordinating Coronation and Baronial Investiture Gift Baskets, please let us know! (It is not my forte…)

The Baron or I will be at the next Sunday practices, and Monday choir practice, the Business Meeting Wednesday, or we can arrange something else. Drop us a line if you’d like to arrange a largesse drop-off/pick-up: baroness@debatablelands.aethelmearc.org or Facebook, and baron@debatablelands

Thank you!

Ice Dragon – Documentation Assistance Offered

Ice Dragon is coming up very quickly and I know that many people struggle with writing their documentation. It can feel daunting and a bit confusing for folks.

If you would like assistance with your Ice Dragon documentation, please contact me and I will be happy to read over what you have and make suggestions.

It can also be helpful just to have another pair of eyes on your documentation to help with edits and flow. Contact me and I’m happy to do an editing pass.

Your documentation is part of your overall points at Ice Dragon, I don’t want to see anyone leave points on the table AND I love documentation and want to show you what an excellent tool it is for your own learning.

Carnegie Science Center Demo

It brings me much sadness and disappointment to have to announce that we will not be participating in the CSC demo 21+ Night this year. There were significant changes to what they needed from us last year as far as insurance and, because it was new to even them, they did not have a real process for this. Their lawyers were not be able to promise that they would have the information required for enhanced insurance in time for us to make that request from Milpitas and have everything in place before the date of the demo. I had a very nice conversation with the Acting Director and he would very much like to have us participate next year and, for their part, they will be working on a process on their side so that things are more organized and timely. The CSC is as disappointed as we are, truly.

I would like to thank Lord Ronan and Lady Zianna for their work with this
over the last couple of years coordinating this event. Their effort and
energy was absolutely appreciated by me and the rest of the Barony.

Going forward, we are going to change some things about how we do larger
demos like this in order to avoid this kind of difficulty and so that we can
deliver the highest-quality experience for us and for the public. We are
also going to be looking at other, more education-centric, opportunities to
really highlight the best aspect of the SCA, participation and sharing our
skills and excitement with each other.

There are some upcoming Demos with CCAC South, the Ellis School, and others to look forward to and I hope that you will be able to make time to volunteer for those. Keep an eye out on the calendar and in the Facebook group for announcements about that.

If you have an idea for a demo, please contact either me or our Chatelaine, Elizabeth Parker (chatelaine (at) debatablelands (dot) org). We would love to do more of these and now that we are aware that more organizations are going to need enhanced insurance from us, we can avoid a situation like this in the future.
