Please heed the words of Meesteres Odriana vander Brugge, Agincourt Autocrat.
Now that I have had a day of rest, I can get to the best part of being an Autocrat, the THANK YOUS! I lost all of my words when I was trying to properly convey my appreciation in court and don’t feel like my appreciation was clear in the moment. The big feelings were as much about how much the day meant to me as well as being a very proud Mom.
Firstly, I want to thank the Officers of the Barony, Society, and Kingdom for making it possible for us to come together again in celebration. I appreciate their efforts, patience, and steadfastness throughout this experience. Without their work, we would not have been able to hold the event at all, let alone as safely as possible.
Thank you to everyone that came out to spend the day with us. It was so nice seeing so many people enjoying themselves and spending time together. The people that traveled to see us, no matter how far, thank you for spending the time, money, and energy to do so. We loved hosting you and hope you return to Our Fair Barony again soon.
Thank you to the Royalty for not only joining us for the day, but for holding their Kingdom Archery and Thrown Weapons Championships here. It was a pleasure to host you and we hope that, despite some minor hiccups, you were made comfortable and to feel welcome. Hosting you was a pleasure, as it always is, and we are so happy to have had the opportunity to do so.
Thank you to my staff –
My tollner, Lady Astridr Thoroffsdottir, who did an amazing job getting things coordinated with our “Plague Doctors”, THL Muirgheal inghen Dubhghaill and THL Ceindrech verch Elidir to ensure that everything ran smoothly between the two departments. Also thank you to THL Hara Kikumatsu for guiding Astridr both before and during the event.
A special thank you to my Head Cook, Signora Benedicta di Venezia. You’ve cooked in kitchens all over the Kingdom since you were tiny and have blossomed into a capable and talented cook in your own right. You cooking feast at Agincourt was everything that I wanted it to be and I couldn’t be prouder of the work that you did. I also want to thank the staff that made that delicious feast happen: To Lord Eamonn (who was cooking at his first event in about 30 years), Mistress Zosia Kowaleswska (who also washed dishes at the end of the night), Lemony (who made all of the vegetable tarts and was a HUGE help in the kitchen), and Eby Jousie (who was an absolute powerhouse all day).
Thank you to Polyhymnia for allowing us to use their dining canopy in order to allow feast to happen, to THL Ceindrech verch Elidir for bringing it to site and to THL Jorundr hinn Rotin for coordinating putting it up and taking it down.
My Heavy Weapons MIC and Event MIC, Maighstir Kieran MacRae, who in his first time as event MIC put together some really amazing scenarios for our fighters to participate with and who kept things safe and fun all day. Thank you to Sir Oliver and THL Guillaume who generously created a tournament for our fighters.
My MOL, Viscountess Lucilla Theresa de Courtenay, was, as always, amazing. Thank you so much for coming and for taking care of the List.
Thank you to my Archery MIC, THL Katherine Tantzel, who stepped in when Skjoldrbjorn was unable to attend (we hope y’all feel better!). Thank you to the Combat Archery MIC, Zoe Akropolitina, our Thrown Weapons MIC THL Kumagaya Kentarou Masamoto. And to THL Jorundr hinn Rotin our Fencing MIC.
Thank you to Baroness Constance Glyn Dwr for holding a Bower. Also, thank you to Baroness Anna Eisenkopf for being our Royalty Liaison and coordinating hospitality for the Royalty on the day of the event. A special thank you to Lady Kara Ivarsdottir for helping us create space from nothing so that the Royalty had a room.
Thank you to Lord Ingvar Sviatoslavich for helping get the hall put back together at the end of the day.
To our site cleanup crew: Maighstir Kieran MacRae (who coordinated everyone), Lord Geirrulfr, Scheiny Celaeno Speckschuttelnerin, Turlough, Lady Fine Failain, Lord Ingvar Sviatoslavich, and THL Ceindrech verch Elidir, THL Muirgheal inghen Dubhghaill, Owen, and Lady Aibhell Diarmata.
To our kitchen cleanup crew: Signora Benedicta di Venezia, Lord Eamonn, Mistress Zosia Kowaleswska, and Baroness Juliana Rosalia Dolce DiSiena.
I think that’s everyone. IF I MISSED YOU, you are loved and appreciated, I’m imperfect and may not have caught you in my notes during the event. If I did forget you, please let me know so that I may formally thank you for your contribution to such a lovely day.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Finé’s Bycocket Hat Project
The bycocket (or chapel à bec) needs no introduction—a fashionable hat from the 14th to 16th century worn by men, women, and sometimes animals in period art. Bycockets come in many shapes, sizes, and colors with adornments such as feathers, brocade, colored liners, and beads. Finé ingen Fáeláin made her own bycocket using a wool felt hat blank using this tutorial on YouTube and a cloche hat blank from Amazon.
The basic construction steps (as elaborated on in the video) involve:
- Wetting and heating the wool with an iron
- Stretching the hat blank to fit your skull
- Creasing the folded brim of the hat with an iron
- Trimming the brim of the hat to your desired shape and height with chalk and some sharp scissors
One aspect of construction that is not explained in detail in the video is the forming of the skull-hugging portion of the hat. When pulling the hat blank over your skull, it’s important to pull from the sides of your head as well as the front and back. This ensures even stretching of the wool, and a head-shaped hat with a brim that doesn’t stick out awkwardly or sag away from the rest of the hat. Thankfully, if a hat is overstretched in one direction, more stretch can be added in the opposite direction to correct the shape.
Finé chose to leave herhat unlined and add a couple plague-edition pilgrim pins. Eventually, she would like to add at least a linen liner in case the felt dye decides to wander onto her veil or wimple, and perhaps also a contrasting brocade on the turned brim of the hat.
As fall approaches our Debatable Lands, fresh layers of warm garb are a welcome sight. This is Finé’s first felt project as well as her first non-sewn hat. It was a straightforward project that any beginner can make with household tools. Happy crafting!
New Vindex Solis Named! (And the date for the next Sun and Moon Lists)
This past Sunday was a glorious day, with the outgoing Defender of the Sun, Master Jussi taking on all comers in the first round of a well-fought Bear Pit!
The points of the Bear Pit were so close, that we had a final round, best of five, with the finalists, THL Guillaume (our new Kight Marshal!) and THL Rhys. The combatants needed all five exciting and chivalrous rounds, but in the end, the Victor and new Defender of the Sun…
THL Rhys of Milesend!! Vivat!
And Vivat! To Jessica of the Debatable Lands (new name coming soon), who has attained training enough through the Stellar Tourneys to be a full fledged MOL!
Thank you, too, to Sir Koredono for marshaling, Lady Vika for MoLing, and Baron Brandubh for heralding!
The next Stellar Tourneys will be Sun (Heavy fighting) AND Moon (Rapier fighting) in concurrent lists on November 21st!
