Did I hear someone say barony birthday festivities? Well that calls for more A&S! Next month, at the Debatable Lands 50th Birthday Celebration, we will have an A&S display themed “Something Old, Something New”! Bring two projects (one old and one new) that show the growth or evolution of your art over your time in the SCA. These projects can be a similar art or different mediums – the choice is yours!

When you submit your art at the event, there will be an option to receive rubric-based feedback in an noncompetitive setting. If your work is in-progress, this is a great chance to see how your art would do in a competition before actually submitting it or to receive guidance on next steps if you’re not sure how to improve. This is entirely optional and your work will be displayed regardless of your choice.

If you’re looking for guidance on an A&S project or just want to work amongst other artisans, the next A&S night will be held Wednesday, April 24th from 6pm-10pm! Please note the change in the day of the week!

Starting Sunday 4/14, all Sunday martial practices will be outside at our Highland Park location (https://maps.app.goo.gl/RVop62SCQTgC3oTA9), on the following schedule:

Archery and Thrown Weapons: 11:30 – 2:00
Fencing: 1:00 – 5:00
Armored Combat: 2:00 – 5:00

In addition, this Sunday will see the return of the monthly Defender of the Sky archery tournament! Range setup for the tournament will begin at 12:45.

Upon consideration of recent rain and flooding, fencing, armored, and thrown weapons will all remain inside at Ace Axe Throwing this Sunday. Start time: 2pm.

Due to the weather and the likelihood that the park will remain sodden, we will keep armored practice indoors for another week. The other marshal activities will make their calls day of.

SO, armored practice 4/7 is still at Ace Axe Throwing at 11 am.

Greetings, good populace!

Starting this Sunday, April 7th, weekly Sunday martial practices will shift to our summertime schedule and location!

11am: Archery and Thrown Weapons
1pm: Fencing
2pm: Armored Combat

Location: Highland Park Northeast Parking Area at the corner of Washington Blvd and Allegheny River Blvd.

Ace Axe Throwing will remain available to us through April in case of bad weather. We will post updates in the blog, email list, and Facebook announcements group the Thursday prior if weather looks bad for a Sunday practice.

One last note for the fencers: Dorothea will run fencing practice this Sunday, as I’ll be unavailable. Please contact me before midday Friday if you intend to come and need loaner gear.

Apologies for the late notice. We will not be holding armored fighting practice tomorrow, on Easter Sunday. The fencers still intend to hold practice.The following week we will be resuming practice at the Washington Blvd Park, weather permitting.

Hi all,

I just took over as Seneschal for our Debatable Lands last month. Why? Yeah, I’ve been asked that, including by myself! Seriously, it’s because I love our barony. And it’s been clear since I joined the SCA 19 years ago that we run on service. If I want us to stay this awesome, it’s my turn. And it’s something I can do.

But I can’t do anything without all of you. Please, I want to hear from you, about what’s great and about what’s not great. Yes it’s a platitude, but we are what we make ourselves as a group. If you want to be more involved, but aren’t sure where to start, we can talk. There are so many many things happening and plenty of opportunities for service, community, and fun.

Here’s one area for participation that isn’t talked about much. Our business meetings happen every other month, on the first wednesday. The next one is this week, April 3rd. The details of the zoom room will be shared that day on Storfrettr, our web blog. Who can participate? Anyone. If you have new business to bring up please talk to me ahead of time. Who can vote? Usually everyone, although there are a few things, per policy, that will be specified as officer only votes.

I am also looking for deputy seneschals. If you are interested in helping keep things running, please talk to me.

So, in summary- please talk to me! And if it takes several times before I remember your name, I’m a bit face blind and bad with names- it really isn’t about you.
